Linsey Marr shares about course topics and career opportunities with a major in Environmental Engineering
If I choose Environmental Engineering as a major, what topics will I study?
You'd be studying things like how we get clean drinking water, what do we do with our wastewater, how to limit emissions of air pollutants and improve air quality, and how to ensure we have enough water where we need it and not too much were we don't want it.
What are some career opportunities with a major in Environmental Engineering?
You can work for an engineering firm that helps design infrastructure to ensure good environmental quality and health, work for a government agency that protects the environment, or take your knowledge into a completely different field, such as law or business.
What made you interested in studying and teaching environmental engineering?
I was inspired to study air pollution by my experiences of running alongside heavy traffic and breathing polluted air and hiking to the top of a mountain, only to have the view obscured by haze.
Why do you think environmental engineering is important to the larger society? What difference can I make with a major in this?
A healthy environment is critical for human health and well-being. By entering this field, you can build, invent, design, and implement new infrastructure and processes that will improve people's lives.
