Civil and environmental engineering students from across the nation gathered at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Civil Engineering Student Championship. This annual event features a variety of exciting competitions.

After excelling in regional competitions, Virginia Tech sent three teams to the championships:

  • Sustainable Solutions Team: Placed 2nd out of 18 teams. They clinched 1st in technical proposal and sustainability. This was Virginia Tech’s first time competing in this event.
  • Concrete Canoe Team: Achieved 2nd in project proposal, 2nd in final product, and 4th overall.

National Steel Bridge Success

The Virginia Tech steel bridge team also competed in the Student Steel Bridge Competition (SSBC) National Finals in Ruston, Louisiana. Out of 47 teams at nationals, they placed 7th overall and secured 1st in Aesthetics. Competing against hundreds of regional teams, their top-ten finish highlights their exceptional talent and hard work.

Virginia Tech’s civil engineering students have proven their skills and dedication on a national stage, showcasing the excellence of their teams in various prestigious competitions.
