Laura Morillo joins Virginia Tech as the Beavers Professor of Practice in Heavy Civil Construction
Laura Morillo joins the Vecellio Construction Engineering and Management Program as the Beavers Professor of Practice in Heavy Civil Construction. Morillo brings extensive professional experience from TRC Companies, where she most recently served as a Senior Project Manager and Team Lead in the Blacksburg office. In this role, she managed site and civil engineering design projects from inception through design and construction, led multidisciplinary teams, supported economic development initiatives across the Commonwealth of Virginia, and contributed to business development and client engagement efforts.
A committed supporter of Virginia Tech, Morillo has been deeply involved with the university’s community. She previously served as chair of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Board and remains an active emeritus member of the board. She currently serves on the University Alumni Board and the LDDI Executive Board. She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech in 1984 and is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia and Maryland.
In her role as Beavers Professor of Practice, Morillo will draw on her industry leadership and project management experience to support hands-on learning, strengthen industry partnerships, and prepare students for careers in heavy civil construction and infrastructure development.
She has been an adjunct professor for two semesters leading Professional and Legal Issues in Civil Engineering (CEE 4804). Her current courses include Professional and Legal Issues in Civil Engineering (CEE 4804) and Construction Means and Methods (CEE 4074).
