For the first time in program history, Virginia Tech represented the Southern District at the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Collegiate Traffic Bowl, at the ITE Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.

The team's success at the Southern District Championship is what qualified them to compete in Orlando.

The Hokie team was made up of teammates Ashlyn O’Neill, AJ Joseph, and Johnny Stern. They competed in the first round against the University of Florida, the University of New Brunswick, and New York University. Virginia Tech placed second in the round, falling to the eventual national champion, the University of Florida.

The competition brought together teams from across the country, including the University of Kansas, Texas A&M, Brigham Young University, the University of Washington, Penn State, and Purdue.

The competition is a series of fast-paced matches that test both knowledge and composure though Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy-style questions.

The topics covered ranged from the technical to the historical, with questions about history of ITE, math, and knowledge of the Highway Capacity Manual.

“I’m so proud of our team for winning at the Section and District levels to earn their place on the national stage,” said faculty advisor Bryan Katz.
