Carin Roberts-Wollmann to retire after decades of impact

After more than 25 years of dedicated service to Virginia Tech, Dr. Carin Roberts-Wollmann is retiring from her role as Professor and Associate Department Head for Graduate Studies in the Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
A nationally recognized expert in structural concrete and a tireless advocate for students, Dr. Roberts-Wollmann has left a profound legacy in the classroom, the lab, and the field. Known for her innovative teaching and mentorship, she taught hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students, developed transformative courses like "Bridges, Builders, and Society," and led study abroad programs exploring engineering marvels in Europe.
Throughout her career, she mentored over 100 graduate students, many of whom have become leaders in academia and industry. She was also deeply involved in professional service, including leadership roles in ACI technical committees and as a strong voice for increasing diversity in civil engineering.
Her passion for concrete and commitment to student success have shaped generations of engineers. As she enters retirement, Dr. Roberts-Wollmann leaves behind a legacy of excellence, compassion, and service that will resonate for years to come.
